Pasta, salsa, soup, sandwiches, pizza, guacamole, salads, burgers—the list is endless. Tomatoes are a staple ingredient in countless recipes and in the competitive world of food processing, operational efficiency is key to staying ahead. This project spotlight delves into how our team worked with a tomato processing plant in California to enhance their daily operations.

Our ICAD engineers were tasked with designing and implementing a motor control system for the plant. Our team created a comprehensive control panel tailored to the specific needs of the customer.

Scope of Work

1. Control Panel Design:
  • Schematics: Our team designed detailed control panel schematics to ensure precise functionality and integration with the plant’s existing systems.
  • Layouts: Both external and internal layouts of the control panel were meticulously planned and documented, including a comprehensive Bill of Materials (BOM).
2. Components Included:
  • Soft Starter: To manage the smooth start-up of motors, reducing mechanical stress and extending motor life.
  • PLC (Programmable Logic Controller): The PLC automated control processes; this enhances efficiency and reliability.
  • HMI (Human-Machine Interface): The HMI facilitates user interaction with the control system, providing real-time data and control capabilities. Operators can easily control plant operations.
  • Transformer: Having a transformer is for voltage regulation and power distribution, ensuring a stable and reliable power supply.
  • Disconnect: This was included for safety and maintenance purposes, allowing for easy isolation of the control panel.
3.  Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT):
  • Our ICAD engineers conducted a comprehensive Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) with the customer to validate the control panel’s performance and functionality. All components and systems were rigorously tested to ensure the customer’s requirements and operational standards were met.

Results

The successful implementation of the motor control system at the tomato processing plant resulted in the following:
The control panel our team built, enhanced operational efficiency for the entire plant.

The control panel helped enhance operational efficiency.

  • Improved operational efficiency.
  • Reduced downtime.
  • Enhanced control over the plant’s processes.
  • Timely project completion.
  • Completion within budget.
  • The client’s expectations and requirements were met.
